The Cross River State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the discovery of the body of an unidentified teenage boy, with his head severed, in Yahe River, Yala Local Government Area of the state.

The deceased, estimated to be about 16 years old, was recovered from the river on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, disclosed this in a statement issued in Calabar, Monday morning.

According to the statement, the incident was reported by the Officer-in-Charge of Yahe Outstation, ASP Ekurbe Abi, while bloodstains observed at the scene raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the teenager's death.

The police said the body was subjected to medical examination and deposited in a mortuary, while efforts were ongoing to identify the deceased and establish how he died.

The Commissioner of Police, Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and directed that anyone found responsible be brought to justice.

The command appealed to residents of Yahe and neighbouring communities to report any missing person matching the description of the deceased or provide useful information that could assist the investigation.
